This self-paced course qualifies for CAMFT CEUs.   In this training, participants will gain a basic understanding of trauma as well as the basic principles of Trauma Informed Care. We will discuss how trauma, including historical, intergenerational, and individual levels of trauma, plays a role for youth in becoming involved in gangs/gang activity. Participants will also explore ways to conceptualize and apply trauma informed care principles and interventions to this population while delivering supportive services, such as mental health or social services. This self-paced course qualifies for CAMFT CEUs.   Mental health treatment is lifesaving, yet disparities exist in who has access to safe, high-quality care. Healthcare disparities are costly, contributing to premature death, excessive medical costs, lost productivity, and decreased quality of life. Black and Latine communities are most significantly harmed and burdened by these disparities, as well as our American Indian/Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and Asian communities. These disparities pose moral and ethical dilemmas for our society, the healthcare system, and our work as health providers. By advancing health equity and reducing these disparities, we promote a system where everyone has an opportunity to achieve optimal health. To do so, we must build focused and ongoing societal partnerships, and address injustices and the gaps we see in care across marginalized racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. Accrediting organizations and other agencies’ frameworks for advancing health equity can be resources for strategizing data collection and analysis, planning, including leadership, assessing clients’ needs, and engaging with stakeholders and community members. This workshop will discuss how we can advance health equity, a key quality and safety issue in mental health care, through collaborative, culturally sensitive, and data-informed systemic interventions. Together, we will think about how we address health disparities as a collective, how to raise these questions when referring to higher levels of care, and how we can strengthen the spirit of health equity in community settings. --- Instructor: Ashley Acle, MBA, MFT, LMFT I’m Ashley (she/her), Healthcare Consultant, Clinical Supervisor/Therapist, and Mental Health Advocate. This course qualifies for CAMFT CEUs.   Still building this training, but here arre my first initial thoughts - This training will be provide ideas and concepts brought forward from the book De-Colonizing Therapy by Jennifer Mullan. The training will focus on supporting participants to question the western ways in which service delivery has been built on in the mental health system. We will think of additional ways to engage in conceptualization of services, including engagement strategies, assessment, and treatment.  --- Instructor: Jeanette Lopez-Urbina, LCSW Jeanette Lopez-Urbina, LCSW has worked in the mental health/social services field since the year 2000, in various settings in Northern and Southern California, including residential and community-based services, through services such as Wraparound, psychotherapy, and violence prevention work. Jeanette has worked extensively with youth and families, especially in the area of trauma, including supporting youth and families in specialized services that address gang involvement, sexual exploitation, immigration trauma, and issues related oppression, racism, and acculturation issues. Jeanette is a bilingual first-generation Salvadoran American practitioner who enjoys practicing mostly from a social justice, relational, and psychodynamic approach. She currently is the owner of a group Private Practice in Berkeley, is part-time faculty at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, and has been a lecturer at UC Berkeley’s School of Social Welfare. This course qualifies for GH CEUs. Employee turnover in behavioral healthcare settings has always been high. Vulnerable populations require attentive, careful support. The challenging nature of the work create strain for workers, as they watch residents’ health deteriorate or deal with residents’ anger, poor impulse control, emotional outbursts, and aggression. The caregivers often have the deal with many psychological health and safety hazards, reducing the overall satisfaction of the job. Creating a social climate involving organizational support, high role clarity and low role conflict may provide adequate conditions to these caregivers to effectively develop positive relationships with young people in residential care.  --- Instructor: Shameka Garner Shameka is a native of Mississippi, the oldest of 4 girls, wife to a Major in the Army, and mom to Eric (15 years old) and Erin (2 years old). Her hobbies include listening to music, writing, singing, playing basketball, interior design and styling, and watching her favorite TV shows. Shameka holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in counseling. She is a Licensed Child Care Administrator (LCCA) for the state of Texas and currently holds the title of Director of Program Operations over a campus with a stabilization and assessment center, an intensive residential treatment program, and a pregnant and parenting teens program.  Her experience includes program operations and staff development as a Trainer and Administrator over both general residential operations (GROs) and Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs), providing intensive treatment for foster care and adoptive youth as well as training foster parents in crisis intervention techniques, utilizing behavioral modification for high-risk high school students, developmental therapy and early intervention services for children, and working with and providing treatment for domestic violence offenders. She has worked in a variety of settings to include secure treatment facilities, inpatient and outpatient treatment, schools, and the community. She has worked with a diverse population of children, youth, and adults with the goal of overall wellness. She has a proven record of improving efficiency, productivity, and program delivery through restructuring resources to achieve goals set by executive leadership. She leads by example and loves working with staff. Shameka is highly passionate about serving. She believes that through teaching, coaching, training, and mentoring she will build the necessary confidence in children, youth, and staff and empower staff as they together aid those in our care to increase their whole being.
